Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church is my church and is collaborating with churches across South Florida to bring hot meals to areas of the Bahamas most affected by Hurricane Dorian. Through a partnership with Operation BBQ Relief, this has become a reality!
Operation BBQ was founded in 2011 in response to a need for relief in tornado-stricken Joplin, Missouri. Since 2011, three million meals have been served in disaster zones across the United States. By leveraging their expertise in cooking and catering meals with an ability to quickly mobilize teams, Operation BBQ will be supplying the food and equipment necessary to send 20,000 hot meals per day to the Bahamas from Fort Lauderdale. This will be the only source of hot meals to the Bahamas over the next 30 days. Four major churches on Grand Bahama Island will serve as distribution centers when the meals arrive on sight.
Through generous donors, a location has been secured at Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport for all food preparation and packaging. Air transportation has also been secured via the historic World War II C-47 airplane, Miss Montana. Flights will go directly from FXE to Grand Bahama Island from the packing location.
