Fort Lauderdale Canals

Hello All,

New to this forum so my apologies if I am out of line.  We are from Wisconsin and my son is a new student at NOVA in Fort Lauderdale and while there he would like to do some fishing in the canals.  Is there any resources for him to identify where he can and cannot legally fish?  Thanks for any help!

Most roadside canals can be legaly fished as long as there is an area to park and you dont venture onto private land. A safe bet is the area along the north side of griffin road in Davie. He can start just west of state road 7 (441) and work his way west. The canal is the c-11. There is a wide swail area for parking and also plenty of small snook, largemouths, chiclilds and snakeheads to keep him busy. A great resource for shore based fishing in our area is a book by local land Captain Steve Kantner. Its called The Ultimate Guide to Fishing South Florida on foot. Lots of information that would give your son a big head start in the area. Have him join this forum as their are many on here that would be happy to help him out and he may even end up with a fishing partner. Tight lines

I second both of thief's pieces of advice. Good area to fish and great book to find even more spots.

Thanks for the tips guys, I was looking on the map for him and that canal North of Griffin is something I told him he should try!  Although this is all taking a back seat right now as he braces for his first hurricane!
