Fish & Sail

https://youtu.be/dihPlAFboI0

Finally got a chance to take the boat out after several weeks.  Always something....and for whatever reason it is never a good time to get out. Well, the conditions turned out to be rather pleasant...  Not only did I manage to do a little fishing, but when the wind picked up and it was time to come home, the sail went up and I ended up getting a nice ride all the way back to shore.

I helped a noob with a sail Hobie a couple of years ago on Lake Hernando.  He was going out and turned over and the mast stuck in the bottom of the lake.  Did I mention it was windy.

I did see one other guy at the Lagoon the same day attempting to sail a small Hobie Sport model.  He was not wearing a PFD  and the boat didn't have any outriggers. If the winds got any stronger he probably could have, would have......may  have been in trouble.

I have a sail, I never use it.
Originally I thought, oh this will be cool, no motor needed lemme sail and troll along the way. What I found is that the mainsheet (the line attached to the sail) gets in the way almost as much as the sail flapping in front of your face. So for me, you're either sailing or fishing, not both.
Now that autumn is coming, I might get some decent light wind days that aren't too hot and maybe I will practice sailing in Biscayne Bay again.

I also have a sail, but never use it for the same reasons.

Well....got to tell you... I never use it going out....but, after finding that I have traveled a few extra miles than I planned to, that sail kit becomes  the best piece of gear I have ever invested money in.  Trip after trip... Even inside the lagoon I can find that I'm travelling miles and miles to get back to shore...lol!  It also turns out to be at the right time....(obviously when I'm tired)  B)
