Charlotte Harbor (week of 3/23)

I finally took some vacation this year and hit the Charlotte Harbor area.  We went out 3 days last week.

Sunday:
We hit the lower harbor.  Our first stop was Turtle Bay, which was loaded with ladyfish.  Pretty much caught one every 2-3 cast.  So we moved from Turtle to Bull.  Overall it was a bit slow, we did manage to catch some trout mostly in the 13 to 15 inch range, though one was 22 inch.  Also caught a decent blue at 24 inch.  We decided to hit Turtle for a second time, and it was still ladyfish everywhere.  We ended up with 5 dolphin surrounding our boat, just waiting for us to release ladyfish, which was amusing for a few minutes but grew old fast.

Tuesday:
Since the lower harbor wasn't exactly hot, we decided to stick to the upper harbor.  On our way out of the canal, we hit up some seawalls, hooked into a nice snook (I'm guessing 30 inches), but after a few minutes the snook straightened the hook and we lost him.  It was a brand new lure, I can't say I was impressed with the hook quality.  Quite a number of trout in the upper harbor, mostly in the 15 to 16 inch range in the upper harbor, with some jacks as well.  Also noticed some heavy splashing near the shore, we tossed up a twitch bait, and whatever it was nailed it hard and literally broke the hooks off as soon as it hit.  I am guessing a jack?  Maybe a tarpon?

Thursday:
We almost didn't go out, it was very windy and choppy.  But I am glad we did.  We managed to find a school of trout, all in the 15 to 17 inch range.  We caught a good dozen to two dozen fish in an hour.

Overall it was a good few days on the water.  Had a lot of success, fished mostly plugs.
