There was rust inside the original trim module. Minn Kota replaced the trim module and steering assembly with the next generation parts that addressed the defect.  The 60 inch shaft is short for my boat and I am moving to the 72".

So too short/small for a 30ish ft heavy center for use offshore?

It may depend on your boat - bow measurement that a tech can advise you on. I have a 25ft Ranger 2510 - calm seas no issue, rough water the head needs to be all the way down which isn't ideal.
