Slow Day/New Toy
14 Feb 2019...Wabasso/Vero...Loads of clean water in the area. First stop, Pine Island. Hardhead Cat and three Snook. Next stop Hobart Island. Gave up, small Ladies on just about every cast. South end of Pine Island, section used to be a Red haven. Outside of the old zone picked up a 21 inch Red. Sisters and spoil islands, picked up a Dolphin escort, circling tight to the boat. Suspect that they are being fed. Area must be getting better, spotted 3 guides working, one sitting off of a dock that I was going to check out for Trout. Grand Harbor Could not get past the Golf Cart Bridge, not enough clearance. Channel out, a couple of short Snapper. Real Bridge, once again, small Jacks and Snapper were feasting on Glass Minnows. Spoil island, boat parked in the best spot, not really fishing it, but parked in it and fishing out of the zone. McCullers cove, no action. Estuary/Vero, slow, short Snook and a Rat Red. Spotted one Sheepshead, but it was too far back in the Mangroves to get a shot at. Canal, pair of slot Trout. Head for home. Quick stop at the Hobart Flat on the way, 3 Trout, Cocktail Blue and a herd of Ladies. Experimented with a popping cork with a Matrix Shad 18 inches down. Will take a little more practice to get the technique down. Overall, a pretty slow day. All players released for another day.
