Keeping live gamefish

Is there any law regarding what you do with a gamefish after you've caught it, assuming it was caught legally, it's of legal size, and it's in season?

For example - if I caught a slot snook, in season - could I keep that fish alive, bring it home, and keep it in an aquarium?
I know they need a large tank, I've kept aquariums for over 10 years from under 5 to well over 500 gallons. I'm just asking about the legality of keeping a gamefish. Are you required to kill them when harvesting them?
