Any Vette Guys On Here?

AC ManAC Man Posts: 7,304 Admiral
I posted this on another forum but thought I would post it here. My brother has a garage queen 2000 Z51 with lots of options including 5k in wheels tires and more in suspension. Transforms the car into a whole new look. 30 k miles and showroom or better condition. It looks amazing lowered with the suspension wheels and tires. White on black leather 6 speed manual. He is making room and wants it gone. I think I can buy it for 12k. Wants 15k, but what are brothers for? He has put 1500 miles on it in 12 years.Original owner was retired and elderly.

What say you?

How much lower can a vette get and still be driven without bumping the bottom on every little bump in the road?

I ain't a vette guy, but the  price is right for a factory vette from that year. I am mot sure if the add ons add or subtract from the value though.

I agree add ons just sweeten the pot, been there done that with trucks and motorcycles.

On the other hand, I think this is a awesome looking series. The one before it and others were God awefull that I wouldn't be caught dead in. I'll try to post pics.

Did your brother change all the fluids regularly and run the car on a consistent schedule even if he didn't drive it? If it was a stranger I would get a mechanic to check the car over due to the long periods of sitting in a garage, but you should know your brother well enough to know the condition of the car.

Yes we are both tech nerds. Keeps it on a trickle charger, starts it to temp etc. He also has a new boat and 4 motorcycles he maintains.

Yes he has no wife or children. Lol.

By the way only 1979 Vetts were in arctic white, in 2000 way fewer in manual.

I am only interested because the deal he is making me. It is car show worthy. The condition is my main interest.

I read recently the new vettes are going to be mid engine.

I looked it up the 2000 was a good looking vette.

My brother ordered yet anothet new boat. Thinking now is a good time to buy his Vette. If it didn't look like it does I would not be interested. But this is exceptional. I have not owned a car since high school 1974.Ford Superduty ever since.

Looooove muscle cars, just can't afford them. Although you could buy the real deal in 1974 for $500 all day long. Could not give them away due to gas and insurance cost.

From a former vet owner, and I kept mine stock.  It will not be a daily driver for most people, with the additions, you will have to be SUPER careful where you drive, heck just a BIG speed bump will cause it to scrape or even get hung up LOL.  My lady loved the Vette, got her lots of attention from every one.  It really is a car that almost everyone should own at least once.

    Is it a ragtop?

    Vettes make good track cars.

Little too bouncy for long trips. Unless you're under 25.

    Corvettes: 1973 - 1972 = cool.

1973 - present = gold chains and Harley RUBS.

While the Camaro is associated with the mullet, the later model Corvettes are associated with hair plugs. I'd rather rock a mullet('67 - '73 mullet that is).

It has the painted and tinted removable tops. Actually the back was the only thing lowered to even the tire gap with the front. Kind of like a level kit for a truck only oppisite ends.

I'm kind of off that now, and no clue how to post a pic since photobucket changed up. Although still possible.
  • surfmansurfman Posts: 6,017 Admiral
Posting a picture is easy, just click the image icon and select the image from your computer. A lot easier than stupid photobucket which I have pictures on but will probably never use, I ain't paying for that.

I had 3 C5s (built from 97 to 2003 I believe) My first was a 98 coupe, traded that for 2001 Z06. My knee got really bad from the clutch, so I traded for a 2003 automatic convertible. All great to drive, but extremely loud inside on the highway from the tire noise. Pretty much the same as driving a normal car on the highway with the windows open. Hard to talk. I drove from Miami to Stuart one hungover morning, and traded it in the next day. Also not much fun when you go over a bridge on the highway where the concrete is a bit higher than the asphalt. sounds like an IED going off. I've only driven a pickup the last dozen years.

Buy this for 52k. Unless the bottom falls out of the collector car market it should appreciate.

You could buy 'a 66  for $1800 used  all day long when I was in high school. I looked at a 1962 convertible one of my favorites for $1500. My dad said that's insane for a old car.

My brother was 5 years younger the collector car market was just catching on by the time he was my age.
He found a red Vette, 1967 427/435 hp factory side pipes, center knock off wheels like new. Again the old man thought we were crazy. Asking price at the collector car lot was $7, 000
    Way into six figures today.

I remember when you got the Z06. That was a bad **** car back then. As for trucks, they have been my daily driver since 1974. Boats, cars, and motorcycles are toys.

At your price of $12k it is a good deal.  Check on insurance cost and consider that too.   But hey, if you want something fun to drive this sounds like a great opportunity.  None of us are getting younger, if you have the money, enjoy it now.

Since I am 62 I seem to be in the current demographic. Lol.

Years ago when the wife ditched the mini van mom car and wanted a sports car, I tried to get her into a Vette. She wouldn't hear of it. Dead last on her list.

She called them p e n I s cars because of the long front end and the men that drove them LOL.

My Z06 was a rocket, with 385 hp. I cant imagine some of today's cars with 5-6-700hp.

I'm thinking of getting into a car again. Looked at 2014 Cadillac CTS-V with 640hp. Among others.

The CTS-V is an extraordinary car.

Other cars in that category (although not as luxurious) are the Pontiac G-8 GXP or the Chevrolet SS. 4 door sedans with some serious oomph and comfortable ride. I'd like to find a low mileage 2017 SS. Just the sound of the thing will make the hair on your arms raise up.

Two of my buddies I know through going to IMSA races are retired.  Both bought Corvettes (a C6 and C7) after they retired.  They joked that I had to buy one too to be in the club  when I retire.   I am headed over to Daytona tomorrow to watch the 'Roar before the 24' and will be back for the 24 hours the end of the month.  I love the fast cars and guess at some point I will need to break down and buy one.  :)
