Did You Get/Give A Christmas bonus?

Not talking about production/commission  bonus, just wandering if employees are getting a Christmas bonus these days.

When I was young my dad gave out turkeys for Thanksgiving and a Honey Baked ham for Christmas.

So what did your boss give you for Christmas?

I give $500  cash plus a tool bag from Home Depot filed with tools and cookies from my wife, and a $75 Publix gift card.

I'm a contractor and big or small we were hurting around 2010. I at least broke even but gave the same bonus out of my own personal checking  account.

Times are better now, so how about you?

I gave my subs a bonus last week.

They earned it and it's been a very good year for all of us.

    Merry Christmas!

Multinational, large engineering firm- we got an aluminum water bottle last year, nothing else before or since.

We don't do Xmas bonus, we get an annual bonus in March/April.

I give my employees a cash gift at Christmas. It varies from $100 for newer employees to $500.

I take it out of my pocket since if it goes through the company taxes have to be taken out.

I know my bonus is modest and all I can afford. On the other hand my wife gets $100 from a large medical firm of doctors and well over 100 employees. She got $300 this year and she has 38 years in her medical field and in management.

Seems Christmas bonus is going away.

Agreed. The bonus thru the company with taxes sucks. I have done it both ways.

Nope AC, that’s a good bonus.  I have friends who get nothing ( but a company party )or something small from wealthy companies like the example you mentioned about your wife.

When I was working for a private sector job we use to get a Turkey every year, when I worked for a school district, we got a Christmas party, I would rather get a bonus than a meal.

That’s amazing. I guess you have zero turnover?
You, sir , are a good boss. Hats off. Your ex employees all wish they could come back to work for you, I’m sure.

Thank you, but it doesn't work like that in the A/C trade. They are all burnt out and over worked In their mind.. The physical and mental strain burns you out by 40 years old. I don't expect anyone to unstand it but Polar. I will say everyone that left me is still my best friend. They just couldn't take it anymore.

On the other hand people are laying concrete blocks every day and happy.

A/C techs are premadonas and want 50k in the south and the ones I get to reply to my want ad from NY and NJ want 30k more than I make as the owner. LOL

Where I live now there is a guy who works in the A/C trade. I haven't met the guy, but in the last year there has been three different company vans in his driveway.

I started my employment with my current employer in Oct. several years ago.  He gives bonus' at Thanksgiving and the first year, I received $25.00.  It surprised me to get a bonus for such a short period of work but said thank you.  Every year since then, I've received $100.  It's run thru the company but withholding is figured and added, then deducted so the check is $100

I typically give 10% of their salary if the numbers look right. We've only missed the mark slightly twice

I burnt thru 9 different crewmen since Sept to end up with 3 good ones..

I gave all three $1000 as a Christmas bonus today.

Sounds about right. Gotta reward good employeees.Good for you!

I have a young guy on the bottom of the totem pole with 5 kids and loves to fish.

He fishes out of a 14 ft jon boat with nothing. I bought him a $400 bottom machine because he is a good guy.

I like helping out those in need and  work hard. They are few and far between.

The company I worked for gave a bonus.  It was about a half weeks salary to me, which was taxed and 401K'ed.  Not sure what any others get or what our hourly production workers get.  Not a tremendous amount of money but I made sure to thank my VP and get word to the owner in California.  Something is better than nothing.

Same with us, but in the first of February. It’s been really good the last four years I expect the same this year.

I have always given cash bonuses for Christmas. I try to give them what they would take home in a 2 week paycheck. Great employees get more( maybe double), less than great still gets about 2 weeks pay because I get soft around Christmas.  Holidays can be stressful, a couple of thousand dollars in your pocket can help.
You should have been here yesterday

I don't include crew Christmas or end of season bonus in their 1099.

End of the year "bonuses" were $500 to $2700 this year. 13 employees. They were pretax.

We give each of our employees based on amount of time with our company a range of $400 to $1,000. We only have 3 or 4 out of 22 that get below $1,000. This is paid to them the first pay period in December.  That is their net amount after tax withholding. We also give performance based bonuses each June.

I receive a yearly bonus but it is not paid at year end but rather at the end of the 1st quarter and is based of 3 factors.

Costa Rica is interesting in that ALL employers are required to pay a year end bonus which must be paid between December 1st and 20th. The amount is 1 month of the employees pay which they love for Christmas shopping. The amount is prorated for employees with less than a year's service. There are also mandated paid holidays and two weeks vacation.
