Mmmmmm.... canned sausages.
I looking for some of you canned sausage connoisseurs to help me decide which is the best.....everybody wants to know.
How controversial can this be?

I like Libbey's. I used to favor their potted meat also but they don't make it anymore. Nothing like mechanically separated chicken and pork parts to start your day.

Hmmm, ok, Vienna.( blue can?) And deviled ham parts for potted meat, but I absolutely love spam, fried. It’s the Hawaii in me.

I like Libbeys potted meat best. But I really don't care about the brand of vienna sausage. Most any quality brand is good.

I always get the regular flavor or BBQ. That has to be the worst BBQ sauce in the world.  Does anyone like any of the other flavors?

That's false.  Vienna sausages in a crock pot with BBQ sauce is very popular, especially at pot lucks.

Cad, I’m about as far from a yankee as possible, but would have to be starving to eat those nasty things.

The flavor of spam fried brown can not be duplicated and is difficult to describe. Very salty and good as a condiment or snack. I think it was designed around wonder bread..... something I'm sure all of us on this thread are completely familiar.

I knew a guy who would feed his dog spam because he thought it was good for him.
His dog's name was "Tator". Tator was a Mountain Fiest and probably the best dog I have ever encountered. The only bad habit the dog had was, after blood trailing a deer to the carcass, he considered the deer his and would not surrender it until his master told him too. You could put the deer on a truck or ATV's and Tator would strattle it and dare you to take it off to hang it. He new once it was hung he had lost his tactical advantage.
The dog had a short life but not because of his diet. He and his owner were attacked by a rabid fox. The dog was put down by the authorities. Although the dog had been vacinated, the proof of same could not be generated in time....A very sad day.
    It's getting dusty in here......
So thanks for bringing up spam in the Vienna sausage thread.

    Helmanns? Yankee

Thank you for the unsolicited evaluation of the man's pantry.
And how gracious of you to give him a pass on the sardines.....

I've always liked sardines,  Vienna sausages & potted meat not so much since I've been grown.

Good thing that spam is lower in sodium. Healthy choices. 😁

    Anyone ever tried eating this?

Potted meat would be like lobster when compared to this 'food'.

OK, where do I start "fisherman".
First of all I a am  5th generation Floridian. Not close to being a "Yankee" although I really don't care what you think.
I like Hellman's. Dukes wasn't even available in my area until  a few years ago. I eat what I like.
I buy creamy peanut butter because my wife is Asian and we incorporate it into a lot of meals and dipping sauces. Expand your horizons.
Starkist, probably was on sale. I don't eat too much canned Tuna and if I do it is usually mixed into a macaroni salad or something similar . The Tuna below it is from the Philippines and flavored.
I don't give a chit if you think Sardine cause halitosis as I like them on crackers with a dash of hot sauce and a squeeze of lime.
Potted meat and Vienna sausages aren't for emergencies, some folks grew up with them when they were poor and still appreciate them even if we can afford the finer things in life in their present situation.

    Some folks get triggered easily.

I guess we have to be serious 100% of the time around here. No jabbing allowed.

Good talk. See you out there.

Sardines on a cracker with a little yellow mustard on them is awesome! Those and some armor potted meat were all i wanted when Dad and I would go out fishing. I would take my Toastchee lance crackers and use them to spoon out the potted meat. not sure why but that was my favorite combination of fishing food as a kid
