Older galvanized trailer frame- should I re-coat frame in galv spray? Also, what about spring coatin

I bought a used trailer for my boat.  The trailer was made in the 80s and is galvanized.  It was only used in freshwater and does not show signs of rust at all.   I am in the process of installing a new axle/springs/etc..

Should I go ahead and apply some additional paint/prep to the trailer frame prior to use in salt water?

Also, what type of grease do y'all recommend to put on trailer springs, or should i just replace after a few years?

I used CorrosionX on the springs and they didn't rust nearly as quickly as the ones I did not treat but the stuff is $20 for a spray can.

No, not necessary, however I do coat my axles with a roofing tar, thinned with mineral spirits. Axles are sometimes not galvanized. The roofing tar you get in a gallon bucket at the hardware store.I have never tried coating my springs, they usually last for 5 to 7 years, depending on how good you take care of them. They will get ugly and rusty looking but are still fine however, don't push them.

Thanks for the tips guys.   I picked up a new axle/springs, and asked the retailers advice.  They recommended the fluid film and said to apply 3-4 times a year on the frame/axle/springs.    Its also biodegradable, so that makes me feel a little better about spreading oil in the waters every time i dunk it.
I will update in 2-3 years! haha
