Coming from Oregon

I'll be visiting Orlando during Christmas this year. I've never fished in Florida and I would love to do it. I'm looking for some advice on what to do. What I'd really like to do is catch a Tarpon but it looks like that's not reasonable at that time of year. Aside from that I'd love to do some sight fishing for just about anything. I'm used to catching 10-30lb salmon around here so I'd like to stick with fish at least in that size range. I'm not interested in bass fishing. Mostly I want to have consistent all day action. I can pay a guide so I'm open to that. Inshore or offshore is fine. I'm not looking to go on a charter boat with 20 other people. I'd much prefer just a couple people or just me and the guide. I also don't need to take fish home but if I caught something tasty I would probably keep some to give to my in laws. I love to cast and reel as opposed to trolling but trolling is fine too.

Thanks for any help ya'll can provide.

You are asking for things that might be mutually exclusive....

Tarpon is do-able in December.... but they won't be giants....nor will you be sight fishing....nor will it necessarily consistent all day action. And there will be no "consistent all day action"  on fish in the 10 - 30 lb range.

If we have a mild December....there may still be big Redfish at Sebastian inlet.....possibly snook also.

If the Ocean is not rough....you might be able to get out and troll kingfish in the 10- 30 lb class...

Sounds like you're looking for a perfect day of fishing. We can't guarantee that but if you're looking for a good time fishing around Orlando, book a guide and do some fishing in Mosquito Lagoon. I think you'll enjoy yourself fishing for redfish, trout, black drum, and maybe a snook in our backwaters. Just pray the weather cooperates or it might be a long day

10-30# fish is actually asking for something.  Most of our fish are under 10 pounds, most under 5.

Sure we have sharks, tarpon, goliath grouper, and a few others that will go over you size bracket.  Just not at Christmas in Central FL.  May, June, sure.

Kings, AJs, black drum, tarpon, red fish are what comes to mind when someone wants something big that is catchable.

Big reds at the inlets right now, but it is seasonal.
