What are your thoughts and opinions on the Nikon AF-S DX NIKKOR 16-80mm f/2.8-4E ED VR Lens for my D7200 and D7000?  Are there any better portrait lenses that I should consider?

Thanks,

I have the same setup for my D7200 and I love it.  I switch the lens for the 80-400 for distance shots, so I've got the entire range covered.  Thumbs up from me on the 16-80mm.

Thanks.  I have the 18-140 as my current main lens and bounce back and forth between the 70-300 and 200-500 for wildlife.

For portraits, there's only one place to start.

Forget about the zoom lenses ... use a prime.

One in particular: 105 mm f 2.5 ... or the Micro version of it.

The big time fashion and portrait shooters have relied on it since the 60's.

Another good choice is the 85mm f 1.8 Nikon lens.

    Thanks.

After this thread, I got the 16-80 for my D7200 and love it.  The commercial shoot I did went well and I was able to fund the acquisition of my new FX gear.

I decided to go with the D850 and Nikkor 14-24, Tamron G2 24-70, and Tamron G2 70-200.  Absolutely blown away with this new gear.  Been spending a lot of time shooting wildlife with the D850 and my Nikkor 200-500.
