Im going to the marathon area for vacation and want to try fishing from a kayak for the first time. Looking for advice on where to fish and anything I should worry about out on the water
Here is a link to Steve's YT channel. He is very interesting and informative and should offer more info than you might ever use and seems like an all around nice guy. He also posts here from time to time. GLGF!
I'm usually west of there, but I did launch once at Sombrero Beach. It's a very nice launch spot, but you usually need to get there before the beach goers hit it; parking is limited. I fished Sister Creek up to Boot Key Harbor and on the way back hit the interior of Boot Key. Caught nada, but a good time. Saw a big sea turtle. I remember there's a light for Sombrero Beach Rd about 5500 between KMart and Publix. Try this https://paddling.com/paddle/locations/?lat=24.7258&lng=-81.0364&zoom=13
A couple years ago there were a couple kayak fishing guides out of Marathon. Used to base out of Knights Key campground, but that's gone now. We fished the "bumps" in Sister Creek from Sombrero to Boot Key harbor. Caught a few fish, nothing that great. I would check out the park adjacent to the town kayak launch behind the new Marathon City Hall. Caught a lot of mangroves there.

I caught a ton of fish and had a great time.
Oh, orange flag on the back of the yak for visibility.
