Today was the day. I got out a little early and was kinda hopeful I could get this chapter closed today. I figured It would allow me to do some other things if I so chose. So, I hit my first spot and it's empty. I run to the next one...which is a very iffy dock light....and get a nice 20 inch Trout. I'm pretty happy about that because it takes the iffy run around looking I usually have to do when I go south. I run to the next two spots and they are both blank... The next spot is the charm with 3 snook and another nice trout.

I finally saw a Red up super shallow with it's back out of the water...got 2 shots but no interest. I kept moving and finally see another Red up shallow...but this time it's money in the bank!

I'm not really sure what this means as far as the fishery goes...but as an unscientific anecdotal test....This year is better than last...by a long shot.

Fishing beautiful Destin / Ft Walton Beach area!
Gives me a little ray of hope for when I head back South.
George, After last year I was not super hopeful....But May was really good and even through the dog days of a sweltering summer it held up OK. Get with me when you get back south.

When I woke up it was raining and I could hear the rumble of thunder. I drank some coffee and decided I would go to the ramp and just see how it shakes out. As I had said this week we were having a lot of offshore storms moving in at daybreak and maybe this was just one getting in early. I got to the ramp and there were 5 other boats already there. I pulled in and waited watching the radar on my phone. Right before 7 we had a weather window and I cranked the truck & started backing in....It was what everyone else needed to make their move too.
I decided to stay close and watch because it was still pretty iffy with some lightning south of us.
My first spot the water was filthy but I picked up two trout on the chartreuse CAL. Ran to my next spot and caught a small snook and lost another. By now the weather cleared and I headed south. I found some fish up shallow but went 0 for 3...and felt I was pretty snakebit....but I finally sealed the deal on a Red.

So...That makes 101
Stopped and talked with Flec before heading to the ramp. I was surprised how many boat were out given the conditions. I got loaded on the trailer just ahead of another storm.
