ok, that's an overstatement, and we had these subsidy programs previously, but this is the first time, in my lifetime, the federal government had to bail farmers out for a burden put on by restrictions on free trade

I am not for subsidies.  Lets get that out of the way as stated fact.

One aspect of this program that I do agree with is the govt foods distribution program.  It should be developed,  expanded upon and eventually take the place of all entitlement food assistance programs

Don’t mean to derail the thread but, why is it that the EU, China and about every other country on the planet have high tariffs, duties and out right bans on American goods and services. But if we put a paltry tariff on an import were the bad guys and destroying world trade??

It is a handout to the consumers. The farmers wont suffer either way. Subsidies lower the price to consumers.
