I think it's her reaction to looking into a mirror.

    But, I digress.

The only real question is, what do they do with your DNA once they send you the results. Are you now compiled in a file that others might gain access to?

Yes, the information is not being discarded.

When you can get that kind of information for $99 or thereabouts, you are the product. The information is being compiled, analyzed, and stored.

    "I'm My Own Grandpa"

    Now, many many years ago
    When I was twenty three
I was married to a widow
Who was pretty as could be

This widow had a grown-up daughter
    Had hair of red
My father fell in love with her
And soon the two were wed

This made my dad my son-in-law
    And changed my very life
    My daughter was my mother
'Cause she was my father's wife

    To complicate the matters
Even though it brought me joy
    I soon became the father
    Of a bouncing baby boy

    My little baby then became
    A brother-in-law to dad
    And so became my uncle
Though it made me very sad

For if he was my uncle
That also made him the brother
    Of the widow's grown-up daughter
Who, of course, was my step-mother

    I'm my own grandpa
    I'm my own grandpa
    It sounds funny I know
    But it really is so
    I'm my own grandpa

My father's wife then had a son
That kept them on the run
    And he became my grandchild
For he was my daughter's son

My wife is now my mother's mother
    And it makes me blue
    Because, she is my wife
    She's my grandmother too

    I'm my own grandpa
    I'm my own grandpa
    It sounds funny I know
    But it really is so
    I'm my own grandpa

Now, if my wife is my grandmother
    Then, I am her grandchild
And every time I think of it
    It nearly drives me wild

    For now I have become
The strangest case you ever saw
As the husband of my grandmother
    I am my own grandpa

    I'm my own grandpa
    I'm my own grandpa
    It sounds funny I know
    But it really is so
    I'm my own grandpa

    I'm my own grandpa
    I'm my own grandpa
    It sounds funny I know
    But it really is so
    I'm my own grandpa

So when you submit your DNA do you submit other info, like you name and your parents name or race hair color or anything else that could give away your lineage?

Why anyone would submit their DNA to anything much less a internet website is beyond me.

… all they need is a name. all the other info is already available in data bases.

I've heard this is not as accurate as we're led to believe in the commercials.  Apparently someone has written a book on their effort with the test.  They're Asian and the test showed something crazy.  They also reported the Scotch/Irish has a strong DNA data base that supports the findings reasonably well (I don't know why).  I'm tempted to try it....

There was a report on some network awhile back where they sent in sample form Twins, used different addresses and such and got back slightly different results for each twin. The show claimed the DNA on twins should match for ancestry.

I still think it was be fun to do and see what comes back.

I really don't care about my DNA I would rather do the ancestry dot com thing, I think that would be way more interesting than just knowing what races my ancestors may have mingled with.

I did the Ancestry thing, found the village in England we were from and visited it. Even found a headstone in the one and only cemetery with our name on it. It was very cool.

I am already a member of ancestry.com. The only problem there is they use data from other members to complete the history and not all of it is correct. similar names get some people confused with others. I saw it with several of my relatives. You have to look at the info carefully and evaluate it. I have gotten back to when my father's family came into he country from Scotland taking the paternal path back. I still have a lot of work to do to get all sides back. I can get my maternal grandfather's side easily since another relative has done that part of the family,. Doing the grandmothers families on both sides is proving difficult. But I haven't done much lately. Need to get back at it.

Yea, just imagine if your name is something like Smith or Williams. Lots of rocks to look under.

Stop disparaging the Smith and Williams names.  I am sure some of them keep up to date on current events.
