I drove a 718 at the Porsche Experience that had the PDK transmission. Had the same sensation as the 919,  downshifting, rev matching etc.  

love a Porsche.

The PDK is a very special transmission. I've been driving one for the past 4 years. There's nothing like it

But I was wondering about the "boost"? Couldn't be the turbo(s) since it did not increase with acceleration? Brake boost?

The 919 is a hybrid. It seems to me that it might be the charging system for the battery. You can hear the turbos whistling he's in his boost heavy the whole run

Very nice video.

That boost must have something to do with the regenerative braking of the hybrid system or something to that effect.

The driver sure knew that course well.

The boost indicator is the acceleration indicator for the electric system.  440hp to the front wheels at full boost on top of the 720hp v4 ic engine, which drives the rear wheels.
Recharge comes from the exhaust (40%) and the front brakes (60%).

The whine is not the turbo's. All racing sports cars have this sound. It is from the straight cut gears. It may be related to the electric motor in this case  but that is above my pay scale. All I know is that sound is related to gears in the past.
