Last Saturday, I ran my 14th ultra marathon; this was a 100k that started in Times Square, went north & out of Manhattan, into the Bronx, and then into Queens. I stepped way out of my comfort zone and experienced an event like none other I've ever done! A little more than 4 years ago, someone very angrily said to me, "You can't run a marathon." Well, 30 marathons and 14 ultras later, I'm pretty sure I can pull this off! It's amazing what shedding a large black cloud of negativity and embracing new challenges can do!
This picture was taken at mile 42-ish with my friend and pacer, Morgan, as we're crossing Flushing Creek. I'm just at the start of a heel-click because it's what I do during marathons & ultras! Hey, why not?!?!
Oh, by the way...I also won the 100k! Not just won for the ladies' division...I won the whole **** thing! So much fun!!!!

Assuming there's a certain level of fitness initially and a training plan is followed (ie: not adding too much distance too quickly), it's actually not as physically intense as one might assume. I was much more sore and stiff after pacing a hilly marathon in the Poconos than I was after completing the 100k...as strange as that sounds!
