so last year on a wmaninwas standing on the road waiting for my ride during a really nasty thunderstorm. Up the road about 6 bucks jump the road. My question is do i scout where they were coming from or where they were running to? They whererunning scared from the lightning and thunder

Could have been 100 different things that spooked them. I wouldn’t worry about that.

Scout everything in that area for a long ways around. Where they were coming from or going to may be irrelevant. Perhaps they had been running for 200 yards before you ever saw them. But something in that general vincity had them around that area.

There’s not a science to it. Its just getting out there and getting lucky and stumbling on something. You can make your own luck thru experience and spending more time in areas likely to be productive, as learned by time on the ground.

6  Bucks together is a Bachelor Group...come fall they will be spread for miles.

THIS..Forget the bucks running together...locate the does. Does will attract the bucks in the rut and what you see now will not represent what will be there in the fall. Go scout the thick cover and look for well worn trails (volume of tracks = does as they stick together). Try and jump does...look for trails...setup ambush points in several different wind directions..They bucks will come to you.

The fact that 6 were running together is a good sign of herd size so you've found a "good area" to start

    Hunt the Does Bro...
If you have a Defined Rut that's your best bet. If your hunting after the rut...well fishing's still good bout then. Far North in the Deep Snows Post Rut can be good cause it's cold and their starving...down here , Their just layin up till Dark Thirty.
Bout time you fire up that Thermocell the Bucks are standing up for the night in deep cover.
