Sunday June 17th @ the Pass
Launched @ 6:30. Water temp 86.6 and quite clear.
Started on the beach and once the trolling motor is dropped, the GF says "what's that"? I look out and see a number of smaller tarpon rolling about 100 yards off the shore. Started with a top water and got a few jacks. GF got some blue runners on a Spro bucktail and a large ladyfish for chunking. Finally got an 18" trout on a magnum Pop-R.
On to a small island and jacks/ladyfish/catfish to complete the trash can slam.
Went to the north corner of Cape Romano and saw 3 nurse sharks about 7-9 feet long swimming in 2 feet of water 3 feet off the dirt. Throwing the pop-r, another 18" trout in the cooler. Into the Morgan River and after 5 catfish, back to the outside. 2 rods with ladyfish and 1 rod screams. Redfish, no. Snook, no, Shark, no. Dopey 4-foot wide stingray.
Put on a shrimp/cork combo and got a 17" trout. A few jacks and then it slows.
Back to the little island and the GF completes the limit with a 16" trout. It's now 11:15 and maybe a billion degrees. With that, to ramp, cleaning station, load the boat, car wash for the rinse/repeat and home.
A decent day. Fillets for the table and seeing the tarpon/sharks = bonus time.
Until next time, be safe. Save some for me! And enjoy why we fish where others vacation!
