I quickly googled pitbull history.  Apparently they were bred for hunting and something called bull baiting (attacking and killing a tethered bull), which I did not know.  And more recently the bloodline has been tainted with aggressive dogs thanks to aholes selectively breeding the most aggressive dogs

Pittbulls themselves weren’t bred for bull baiting. That’s what the original bulldogs were for. Pittbulls were bred by crossing bulldogs with terriers to make a better dog vs dog fighter. Pittbulls didn’t exist until a couple hundred years ago. The original bulldogs existed for about 1000 years as descendants of Roman war dogs in Britain. They were shipped to the colonies where they evolved into American bulldogs, while the original bulldogs in Britain ceased to be when they were crossed with the pug to give us our modern English bulldog.

It is correct that in the old days, pitt bulls weren’t aggressive towards humans, only other dogs. After dog fighting went underground good breeders stopped controlling the bloodlines and human aggressive dogs were allowed to reproduce. Think how a game rooster can be human friendly but aggressive to others of their own kind. That’s how pitts originally were.

Geeze , Might as well adopt a Rattlesnake..
My dog bites me he won't see the sun rise..
    Amazing .....isn't it?
    It's an obsession......a mental illness.
People like that deserve whatever they get.
Makes you wonder what type of deficiency they are trying to compensate for.
So many dogs available and you want one that kills people.....smfh
Arguing with idiots is like playing chess with a pigeon... No matter how good you are, the bird is going to crap on the board and strut around like it won anyway.

Usually its not the owners that get a bad experiences out of it. Its the people or animals around them who get mauled. And the people who get obsessed with dangerous dogs don’t see their dog as the one that’s going to kill someone.

I wouldn't mind a pitbull raised from a pup from a good breeder I could trust.  Yeah, from a pound I would be apprehensive.  But I've never met a pit cross I didn't like.

We also have a Pitbull, good dog, will show some aggression but has never attacked.  Of all places he came from Dominican Republic.   He hates the labs!
Pit bulls are not really supposed to like other dogs....
    Why is that Johnnie?
Because they were bred to fight other dogs... (not people)  They were first a cross between bull dogs and game terriers.... To fight other dogs in a pit (ring).... Unbiased aggression towards other dogs was a desirable trait.
So they have been selectively bred for aggression for ......200 years....?
Bred for dog aggression....... In dogs aggression towards dogs or other animals are two different drives.... A dog that is dog aggressive is not necessarily human aggressive. And vice versa
Whatever you say Johnny.....you're the expert.

to add on what Johnny said, if you get an adult from a shelter you can better assess it's personality before adoption
with a puppy it's hit and miss
Check this process out Frank. Pretty interesting.
Anyone ever used this with success?

Came across this funny comparison on an English Bulldog site.  I love mine, but realize they are not for everyone.

I always wanted one.  But i don't know if i'll get another dog ever again.   I was a blubbering mess last Saturday when we put Bear down.

Sorry for you loss Soda.  It's been months but I still break down thinking about the two dogs we freed from their suffering.

We did get a puppy right away after the first.  I was not totally on board for that, but I'm glad we did.  She helped ease our pain and gave our other pup a playmate he'd be missing.  She's smart as a whip and we didn't even have to potty train her.

Anyway, again, sorry for your lost.

This thread is one of the reasons I'm back of the FSF.  A week ago we had to put down our 11-year old Golden Teddy.  And of course it broke our hearts...but it was the right thing to do.  We will be soon getting a female golden puppy from an AKC registered breeder in Ocala.  My heart goes out to anyone that has lost a furry family member.

Hard to believe they don't fill a football stadium for that.

Sorry to hear that.  Anyone who has had to do that kind of knows how it hurts, even when it is the right thing to do.

I still get teary eyed thinking of the two we had to decide when it was thw time and the right thing to do.

Thank you.  We now have a darling 9-week old female English Cream Golden puppy that is mending broken hearts.  Can't and won't live without a dog.  As the saying goes "there's a reason dog is God spelled backwards."

After we lost one of our poms to kidney failure, something I wouldn't wish on any owner, we got a puppy right away.  I mean a couple days after.  I was not exactly willing, but I new my wife would need a pup to cope, not to mention our other pom.  In the end it was the right decision and helped us transition to life without her.

The new pup took a liking to our blind 15.5 year old pug.  He was put down in April.  We think he had cancer or something with his bladder.  My mother in law and him were best buds the last couple years of her living with us.

She wants a pug puppy when we move.  I always said he was such a great pug that I would not get another one, but she was so good to him, if that's what she wants, shell get it.

Sorry about the long post, but every time it gets in my head I have to write about it.
