We used to be sent off to deer camp with nothing but spam and potatoes, the attitude the first few days was, "if it's brown, it's down" plenty of time to horn hunt later.  
You are right though, I have never picked #8 shot from a dove breast, #5 from a Pheasant, yes.  The steel shot is really hard on the teeth...

Some articles said pieces of metal and some said shards. A shard, by definition, is sharp. Wouldn't like that passing thru my gut.

In the US, 40% of ALL FOOD is wasted. And this is food without sharp metal objects in it.

This spam incident is but a drop in the bucket.
