Gas prices are soaring

I paid $86 and change to fill up today.  This may become painful for the middle class and really painful for the poor.

    No ****
Could get a lot worse, so if you don't mind I would rather commiserate on some other, more  significant inconvenience.
    So.... how ya been?

Prices always go up around Memorial day and usually drop back down in June. Don't expect a huge drop, but it should back off a little.

Inventories are still high, U.S. production is up and there is not real reason to see a major increase in prices. OPEC has spare capacity to pump more fuel if needed due to issues with Iran and likely will since Saudi Arabia hates Iran, OPEC wanted the price to get back up to $70 a barrel and that is about where we are.

It go s up to very year at a this time. And OPEC doesn't have anything to do with it. It's our own oil companies screwing us.

Yes planned by the big money.  They lowered the gas price to get lots of people to buy low gas milage vehicles and now they will raise the price to get many to buy fuel efficient vehicles.  Boats just started to recover, for the main stream, where there used to be a boat in almost every drive way, now people will think they should do without one.
I did hear the recreational vehicle owners would only start bailing out it the gas goes over $5 a gallon

Actually it's our own politicians and environmentalist screwing us. 49+ blends of gasoline?? 3 or 4 would suffice.
Not to mention the stupid ethanol mandate.

Buy a more fuel efficient car?  It costs me $25 to fill up.  On a monthly basis my wife and I combined spend about $125 on gas.

I drive about 7,000 miles a year, gasoline is not a big issue for me. I just noticed a spike when I filled up last week and since we are producing more gas than ever, I wondered why.

If it's about summer, it seems like a ridiculous reason.  What happened with the tax cuts for oil companies?

You drive 7,000 miles per year and you're complaining about gas pricing? Personally I drive about 35,000 per year and have 9 other vehicles that average 35/40K per year. You obviously need to downsize your expectations when you swap your lease.

Summer time has always had increased pricing for gas. Summer blends in larger metro areas, supply and demand and maintenance of refineries influence the prices. It's not some government conspiracy.

Please reread my post, I was not complaining, just wondering why gas prices are increasing when we are producing record levels of oil.   Then you give the standard drivel I could get from any oil producing company.

Gasoline in minor expense for me, I spend three times as much eating out every month.

OPEC is a cartel.  Gas prices are always highly variable.  Producing record levels won't normalize consuming record levels.  This country grossly over consumers gas, period.

The tax cuts to oil companies were replaced with federal gas taxes?

Don't know what to tell you.  People get 15 mpg when they could easily get 30+ mpg.

So you filled up 2 weeks ago and seen a spike? What is a spike to you? I fill up every week. It cost me $2.00 more over the last few weeks.

Consumption is down, oil production is up, and gasoline prices go up. I think they are charging a very fair price. I never complain about gas prices. paying a few bucks is easier than me pushing my vehicles down the road. Besides having four wheels pulling and throwing you back in the seat. The price is worth admission

Breaking News - Oil prices are falling

What a difference a week can make.

Oil prices surged to their highest level in over three years last week, and strategists were marveling that prices had shot up so quickly. Now prices are slumping.

US crude oil futures have dropped by nearly 10% to trade around $66.50 per barrel, down from about $73 last week. Global benchmark Brent crude oil has dropped by about 6% to trade around $76, after peaking above $80.

The sharp price decline was triggered on Friday by Saudi Arabia, the biggest oil exporter in the world and de facto leader of oil cartel OPEC. Saudi energy minister Khalid Al-Falih said during a CNN-hosted panel in St. Petersburg, Russia, that he was in intensive discussions with Russia and other OPEC nations to pump more oil to ease global supply concerns.

My F-150 gets 23 mpg on the highway, one reason I bought it. I heard that Venezuela has all but stopped producing oil, in real trouble.

What little they are producing is going to China and Russia, I believe. They tied up most of their production with a nice deposit to Maduro's Swiss bank account several years ago.
