Your favorite artificial blackfin lure?

CoastalCatchCoastalCatch Posts: 515 Officer
I'm encouraged to target some now that a few are showing up!

Please also indicate type, colors, speed, distance back, etc....thanks for sharing!  :)

We caught a few last year was on this homemade Dollar Store pom pom teaser behind an OUT-ROVER 150 feet back.

A similar homemade blue one didn't produce any!  :/

Thanks Parker ...what series? I couldn't locate a lure with those 3 colors...and I really didn't want to use any incorporating dead bait.

I have wondered if anyone trolls those, or swim shad tails on jig heads. Seems the action would be better than a skirt.

I've had a lot of success pulling 2 oz/6" **** pearl head feather jigs in yellow or black/red.
    Works great on dolphins too.

4" and 6" cedar plugs in purple/ black or blue/white.  Put one WAY out ... as in 2-3 times as far back as your rigger baits.  I also like 6" Tuna Clones in green, blue/ white, and purple.  Again, put them way back.

What ever lure you pull I would recommend changing the leader to 15 to 20 ft of 40 - 60 lb flouro with a small spro speed swivel tied directly to the main line. No clip swivel.

For BFT we fish primarily the humps off Islamorada.  We have had great success with red/black and purple/black feathers rigged with flurocarbon.  As far as distance from the boat goes what I tell people is "if you think it is back far enough--double it"  I will also troll faster than usual,  9-11 knots or faster when chasing birds.  Historically when fishing off Broward and Dade I would put out a usual dolphin spread and run a shotgun dark feather way way back.
