Should Citizenship Matter in a Census?

MGTeacherMGTeacher Posts: 1,798 Captain
Dang right it should. Non citizens should not be allowed to vote, therefore they shouldn't count in a census that will be used to determine how many seats a state earns. Of course it is California.

Sure, include citizenship, and be sure to include all sorts of new sex choices just to get you guys riled up even more.

In return, you must list the serial numbers of all your guns.

All people living in the US should be counted. Only US citizens should be allowed to vote.

The only reason to identify and count non citizens should  be to map out their hives for raids.

You do understand that there are permanent and temporary residents in the country that are not citizens
  • ResinheadResinhead Posts: 10,987 AG
You should have to be a full-time resident to vote in elections.

Really why do we need a TRUE census, cannot the census be collected my other means like SS or Doctor bills, or welfare recipients or electric bills.  Sure there will be some errors, but I have known some census takers that said that there were many many homes or places that they could not get to, or no one at home or answered the door and some places that they were afraid to go in.  Yes, I know confidential information sharing but, if the government needs to REALLY know, which they do, there must be a easier way.

The citizenship question was on the long form census until it was discontinued. It should be added to the short form since they don't do the long form any more. The census is for more than just apportioning votes. It also is used to apportion federal money for a variety of programs. i think the citizenship question is important,

They mail the census and then use canvassers to cover those who don't respond. The mailing covers about 75% of the population. It is normal that census workers will have a hard time getting the data since they are the last resort and that a lot of that 25% that don't mail in their form don't want to be counted.

They also do community surveys and other surveys to collect population data, The census is the 10 year survey, it is a real census, It is why they send out the census taker to fill in the gaps for those who don't respond. It is the most accurate count method we have.

Wasn't the question on the census up until 2010?

I’m trying to remember. In 2010 I think they asked my race and if my Home was paid for or if I had a mortgage. I responded, present, + my wife.

What about permanent residents? They work pay taxes etc etc. Shouldn't they be able to complete the census?

I often chuckle when people debate immigration...Lots of Americans seem to take issue with it, but as an Englishman now living over here. They love telling you how their family back in the day was from Scotland or Ireland etc etc, surely they realize their family emigrated over here......

And they left out how much their relatives wanted to be a part of this country?
Maybe they thought it was a given. I know I’m guilty of this. I usually think Englishman have the same yearn for freedom as the American ideal. But then I remember, despite WW11, they voted for their own socialism.

No one said they couldn't complete census. The question is are they a citizen. Has nothing to do with immigration.
If they are here legally they shouldn't have to worry. If they are not here legally, I don't care if they worry or not.

EVERYONE needs to be counted. If not, areas with lots of non-citizens will not get the federal funding needed by the feds for all sorts of things that affect everyone's daily lives.

I don't see why this needs to be done at all.   There is more than enough data mining and social media out there for a pretty accurate estimate of the population.   all those servers that are buried in some mountain in the northwest saving emails, texts, snapchat weenie pictures and chicks with dog noses and ears.

I'm sure a pretty simple algorithm could be put in place to estimate population based on cell phone pings.   Yea some people have burner phones and multiple phones, but that could also be factored into the equation.

All this big brother tech inside your house, listening to everything you say and do, and they still expect me to believe they need to come door to door to figure out who's living where?  Not buyin it

So more non citizens = more federal money.

    Gotcha.

You would lose the people who are not online. Elderly and poor. They are the ones that need assistance.

Eff your proper distribution of $$.  No such thing.  You work and you get your own $.  If you don't, then they can knock on your door to have their "fair share".
This is what places of faith and community centers are designed for: to help the poor.
But, people like you have declared that the fed is God and should take care of everyone.  There is zero morality in stealing from others to "distrubute fairly".

And, before you ask, yes my wife and I personally help out friend(s) in need.  At great financial costs too.

Census is used for very important consideration other than who is where. Congressional representations are based on population as is funding to states for Medicaid, Section 8 housing etc all of which is supposed to be based on citizen population and distribution. Fear of losing funds and Congressional representation is the reason liberals don't want the citizenship question.

If you count illegal sludge then the areas with said sludge gets more congressional representation.
