Hillsboro 3.26.18 Speedos and a surprise!

CoastalCatchCoastalCatch Posts: 515 Officer
Predawn launch and soon we Sabiki 1/2 dozen speedos (first time!) ...lose first one to a shark on the downrigger and the others never get touched (west wind to blame again?!)  s

At 8:30 plan B found us doing a bit of trolling and get a king on a drone spoon off a planer.

At 9 am plan C we drifted sardines and got two 17.5 " muttons.

At 10 am we troll back to the lighthouse along the 2nd reef getting our 'lucky-dip of the day'... a lizard fish...on a Rapala doing 6 knots 30' down!!!.... :o

    Nice report.
I would have had to bring the Speedos home for my wife. In the Philippines they are treasured on the table.
If Lizard fish grew to twenty pounds, it would be unsafe to swim in the ocean. Aggressive suckers they are.

Lizard fish usually hang over sandy bottoms, just far enough off of structure that they don't run into the reef dwellers.  If I am snapper fishing & I pull up one of those, I know it is time to reset & start a new drift.  That thing is pretty big for a lizard fish.  I usually see them about half that size.  I usually get them on cut bait.

We did bring 5 home and we're not Philippino...although we have been to Cagayan de Oro!  B)
