1 fat Bonita in 150ft trolling.  He ended up in the chunk bucket in the freezer

all you can catch 19” mahi on a weed patch in 700ft

also made my first attempt at flying a kite after the wind came up.  Didn’t have any bait but wanted to practice.  Let’s just say it didn’t go well.  It’s a green SFE and I have it on a kite rod with a little penn senator.  Had all the lines straight and the bridle untangled but it got about five feet up, started spinning and hit the water.  My understanding is they don’t fly wet.  Is that right?  I kept trying but couldn’t get it to fly straight.  Wind was blowing at least 10- 15 so I know I had enough wind.  Do you only get one shot and you’re screwed if it gets wet?

Any tips?

    Invest in a helium balloon/setup.

the green sfe can fly wet but is difficult in lite winds

My ancient Bob Lewis kites with tears in them are more stable than the brand new SFE medium wind I bought.  I have also struggled with it unless the wind is blowing more like 15 solid.  The ultra light SFE works well in the 10 - 15 range (or add a helium balloon). With that said, make sure the rods are all inserted completely and facing the right way and bridles are not looped over the corners.  When letting it out  - get it out there quick and make sure you have at least 40 - 50 feet out and it should and it should stay good and stable.  Of course get away from a T-top or other structure that breaks up the wind as well.

Once it's wet the 30 year old Bob Lewis kites come out.

    Good luck

Look into the Boston Big Game Kite - it's the easiest thing to fly. Will go up with no problem, even if you dunk it. Perfect if you've never kite fished before. Will also fly in pretty light winds.

I will second the Boston Big Game fly -ability and overall characteristics that won’t make you want to break your kite rod in half. The BBG kite is the easiest to get up and keep up without a helium set up.

Boston Big Game is easy to fly...but it does usually ride a lot higher than the square ones.  The biggest thing that I've found will ditch your kite is if your console is blocking the wind. Sometimes I'll run up to bow to launch to get free wind....then when it gets behind the boat it has enough altitude to launch.  From the stern, it often gets about 10 feet behind the boat and tanks.  The BBG kite will fly wet.  The others, not so much in my experience.
