A#1 is one of the six or seven on here that make reading this Forum enjoyable for me.  Love the way he grinds his axe.

I'm a fifth gen cracker.  Both my dad and I were born in tampa.  He was born in 1941.  When my dad was a kid, he used to go down to the river (hillsborough) and pull oysters out and eat em right there on the spot...  The bay was crystal clear and covered in grass...

By the time I was a kid (born 76), those days were gone.  BUT, there was still 'real' and wild florida smack dab in the middle of pinellas county.  There were deer roaming around and no speak of coyotes.

Now, those days are gone.  Most of the woods I used to explore are ALL neighborhoods now.  The rest are municipal parks with paved streets, playgrounds and manicured landscapes, complete with bathroom facilities and trash collection....

And guess what?  It's coming to a town near you..
Yeah, I grew up in Seminole Heights (Tampa) and used to walk down to the river around the Hillsborough Ave bridge around the time you were born and catch big crabs molting in the shallows and use them to wear out redfish on the north side of the bridge. As kids my neighbor and I used to lug a canoe down there sometimes and take it up to the Sligh Ave bridge and catch some pretty big snook. I don't think you could do either now.

Lake Okeechobee decisions being driven by politicians that are questionable would be near the top of my list. That is something that will have a big trickle down effect.

As turtle tea says, Lake O should be a top priority for everyone. The water management of the lake affects a lot more than just this body of water.  It has an impact to the south, east and west. As long as SFWMD and U.S. Sugar are calling the shots, it will be difficult to achieve what needs to be done.  That means more water going south, ether than east and west.

Big Sugar is a favorite scapegoat for some. They aren’t the boogie man though.

Look to the Seminoles, the NPS, and the ESA, if you really want to know why more water isn’t already going south of the lake.

    yes sir.
I am glad to only be a bird hunter with bird dogs...being a shooter or dog handler or whatever other niche exists to separate appears to generate far too much about which to worry.
