Lake Okeechobee crappie fishing insight

hey guys, I’ve never fished for crappie or even on Lake Okeechobee for that matter despite living in Broward County for most of my life. Looking to try a fishery. I have an 18ft hewes flats boat and was looking for a general starting point for Lake Okeechobee. Not looking for any hot spots, just a little guidance. What boat Ramps would be a good starting point? Are there areas to avoid in a flats boat due to thick grass or hazards? Do you guys recommend fishing live minnow around the grass?

Thanks for any info.

Not sure where to launch on that side of the lake but I have launched out of Harney Pond a few times over the last month or so and the minnow up in the reeds has produced well. Around the new and full moon has produced the best results. Water depth where we have been catching them has ranged from 3-5' deep and minnow is about 2' down on a small float. If you put the time and effort in you will get your limit. Flats boat will be at home there too.
