Dead fish in the bay

While fishing for mackeral in the bay yesterday we saw many dead fish.From 6 to 12 miles offshore there were dead fish everywhere.Not massive  balls of fish,but you could stop the boat anywhere and count 50 to 60 floating dead fish.Mostly smaller grunts and snappers,but also some larger fish like macks,lady fish and catfish.We hammered the macks so the fishing was good but it was worrisome to see this.Anyone know anything about the cause?

It hasn't been cold enough, so my guess would be an algae bloom in the area.  Maybe?

Were you in Florida Bay or Biscayne Bay. Heard of the same in Florida Bay north of Marathon.

A fellow guide friend of mine saw the same thing.  About 7 miles west of Sprigger.  Said the water looked yellow and there were lots of dead fish floating.  He turned back towards the yacht Channel to fish.  A marauding algae bloom I assume.
