Bass Sunshine Hybrids

Usually we have a fairly good thread running for the School Bass and Sunshine Bass (the big ones) in the Central part of FLA on the St Johns River. This year has been a little different than years past but still a few getting caught. Fishing primarily out of Mullet Lake Park and CS Lee (Jolly Gator) we have managed to catch them from 10 pounds 1 ounce down to little (year-round) guys coming in @ 1 to 2.5 pounds. Been catching them on the Troll with F7 size Rapalas and the cheap knock-offs of the same. Rattle traps have got a few as has Fly and the Sebile Stick Shad is getting them now. Topwater has been exciting as well with major explosions and the best "eats" I have seen all year.....Largemouths took a REAL beating during the Freeze and High Water giving us two fish kills where I fish. We have only caught 3 Largemouthed Bass (LMB) which is off our average number by this time of year by 302. Yes, we have averaged 305 LMB by this time of the run for the last 5 years. Bad stuff. Still there are a few females and some little Buck Bass to carry on. Not many beds this year and they are Off of them now. Might not be bedding going all year (like normal here) as the number of LMB has diminished greatly. With all the tournaments being run, the pressure will run them off ALONG with the State killing every piece of vegetation available.

Thanks for the status of the fish style report! That's a nice sunshine bass!
The Sunshine's are stocked every year, right? They can't reproduce? If so, the numbers being caught are quite the indicator of the program success.
If not, I need to recheck my sources!
Thanks for the up date. I recognize that spot I think from a guided trip many years back. How is the shad run ?
The Shad run was ok I reckon. The size was the smallest ive ever seen down to 9" American Shad. There were days you could catch 100 but be hard pressed to get one over 1# 12oz....terrible. Just today i got 5" + Threadfin, gigantic compared to these normal ones

Im taking a day off the water tomorrow...at least I am thinking that right now

We have caught them under 4" near Mullet Lake, fairly certain it is Seminole County. Ive been told several ways they do and do not reproduce over the years so I kinda just go with the flow until there is an definitive explanation
