Getting my boat ready for this season and i used to always buy one at the parts store but was just about to order one and seen they have zinc and aluminum, is there a difference which is supposed to work best thanks
Nope. Magnesium anodes are for freshwater. You can use either zinc or aluminum alloy anodes for saltwater.
Aluminum anodes are generally superior to zinc these days. They last longer and offer the same degree of protection except in extreme cases where large surface areas of dissimilar metal or shore currents are involved. All new outboards come with aluminum anodes.

Disregard my previous post. I just read and article about anodes and there's a lot more to it. Google "zinc or aluminum anodes" and read for yourself.
