2 cents... This New Forum/web design is aweful... I get change, but it should be for the better

Not worse... Far too complicated and NOT user friendly.

Pictures take up the whole screen, with the drop down menu covering them. I have started coming here less bc it is such a pain to look at

You can edit but just for an hour. One thing I hate is when people changed their comments after many other posts would happen and then the later posts referenced comments that were no longer there.. There is a little symbol that you click on to edit the post. Hover over and there is a countdown timer till editing is done. That allows for correcting grammar and typos but not to later get 20/20 vision.

Personally I find the new forum displays content way quicker and keeps track of where I last got to in active threads.

Drop down menu over posts is a pain and still needs to be addressed.

Miss the ability to hover over a topic and see first little bit but can live with it now that the topics load so much faster. Back button has come in handy.

    My 2 cents

I'm well under an hour since my post above, but don't see anything that I can click on to 'edit' with......

  • Gary MGary M Posts: 13,246 AG

Okay, found it and actually used it to edit a mispelled word! Thanks!

Now, how can I see the little marks/arrows that show that I have posted in a thread when I look down the list of all the thread in a Section?

I am on a computer and to the top left of my profile pick is a asterisk looking thing that will let me edit the post.

It appears that now they have removed the 1 hour limit on editing. I was able to go back and get the icon on a post from way back. Liked the fact that people could not change their tune after thread moved on.

What I have found works is to bookmark the thread by clicking on the star to the right of the topic. Then up on the menu line with you profile name on it is an icon that is 4 icons after your name. That will allow you to see the posts that you bookmarked and how many new comments are on each one.

I guess this is how an old married man feels after getting a divorce and trying to figure out a new woman, What used to work no longer does and you have to get used to things in new positions.

I'm still struggling to understand why it is a good idea to have a drop down menu take up 1/3 of the viewing space of the current forum that you are looking at. This should be a "click to drop down" item. None of the much larger fishing forums are formatted anything like this. Why couldn't they have just looked at successful forums like 2Cool Fishing and just followed a format that works? It doesn't take rocket science to copy success. Very frustrating.

I agree this sucks. Please bring back the old format. This is just plain painful.

I agree with too painful. Some say quicker. I am unable to look at anything quicker. I guess I'll keep trying until I learn it or get tired of it and quit looking at all.

The smiley face avatars look like they're on acid. Additionally hitting the back button causes the page to load then refresh for some reason which is annoying and takes more time than it should. Hopefully they get things sorted out soon.

    Seems fine to me.

  • NorthernNorthern Posts: 903 Officer

Maybe it's just on my computer UK Angler. My problem is that many of the pictures are being posted huge, which causes the copy to go very far to the right, and off of the screen. To read copy, I need to keep scrolling to the right to finish a line, then scroll back and start over for the next line down. This gets very tedious. To add insult to injury, they placed the forum menu right in the middle of these wide ones, so that there is missing copy and parts of pictures.

Are you saying that your view of picture intense posts (like Team Teke's and Cameron's) all fits on your screen (width wise), and that there is no menu blocking a part of that? If so UK Angler, please tell me what method that you are using to view the forum. It is horrible on my Windows 7 PC. Maybe I need to use something different?

  • AOKRVsAOKRVs Posts: 2,082 Captain

My computer does not do that and
it seems to display fine on my phone
which is probably the goal since everything on the
web is moving to a format that is smartphone friendly

I'm still try to find out why many pictures are huge on my Microsoft windows 7 laptop. It only happens on this forum and no other forums or sites that I view.. Before the "Update" everything was fine. Did you need to reset anything? Are you guys using Apple or Microsoft laptops?

I'm using my kindle fire...all seems well on it. Everything is rendering to the correct size. The new site seems 'cleaner' too. Just a bit more modern (imo)

  • NorthernNorthern Posts: 903 Officer

The biggest Kindle fire that I could find was a 10' screen. Is anybody viewing pictures like on Cameron's new post, sized properly to fit on a standard sized laptop screen? If so, what laptop? Any tricks to get it sized correctly?

On Cameron's new post, I clicked on my "zoom" adjustment, and took it to the lowest setting possible, which is 50%. This made the copy too small to read, yet the picture was still more than double the width of my computer screen. This problem does not happen on any other site that I go too. ONLY THIS SITE! There must be a way to fix this.

I NEED HELP! Does this forum have moderators anymore? Do they every help anyone? If so, is there a way to contact them?

Thanks Monty, that may be the answer. I'm currently using "Internet Explorer" for my browser so that's a possibility for the problem. It seems strange that Explorer has worked on hundreds of sites for over a decade, and FS is the ONLY site that it will not work on.

I guess the questions are: 1): Is there anybody using "Internet Explorer" as their browser, and viewing the pictures on this forum sized properly? If so, what computer and program are you running?

    2) Is there a way to e-mail or call FS to solve this? There use to be moderators on here, but I guess they all quit. I wonder why?

  • cameron sleepcameron sleep Posts: 528 Officer

The frustration I have is that there are only 114 reads on my post after several hours of work putting it together. Where did the readership go? There used to be several thousand reads and pages of comments on a post. I don't know the technical side, but it would be much simpler to put pictures on face book with a simple one line description. :#:#

  • NorthernNorthern Posts: 903 Officer

It's not a good deal Cameron. It seems that a very bad downward spiral has begun. Viewers, like myself, are no longer opening posts that have high probabilities of lots of photos because the photos that are over twice the width of a viewing screen, are so hard to view. The associated copy takes intensive scrolling because it runs from one end of the photo to the other end. Not to mention how the forum index blocks out parts of the oversized photos and written copy. I don't think that I'm the only viewer with this problem. Most of these viewers will not want to make changes to their computers just to view one incompetent forum.

The saddest part is that the kind of posts that you make, are by far the most interest. They gave the viewers a real sense of being along with you on your advertures. I'm understading your fustration. It has to take a lot of time to put together posts like that.

There seems to be no way to contact FS about fixing this. Maybe there is a slim chance advertisers will see that they are paying for an inept forum with dropping viewership. They are probably the only source that can get this fixed.
