To FWC: Can I use a drone for fishing?

BlueRacerBlueRacer Posts: 82 Greenhorn

My questions are in regards to FWC regulation:

GEAR SPECIFICATIONS AND PROHIBITED GEAR, CH 46-4, F.A.C. (Effective January 1, 1993)
Prohibits the use of spotter airplanes to assist the harvest of any species other than Spanish mackerel during the unlimited harvest segment and species allowed to be harvested by purse seines

My questions (in the context of recreational saltwater fishing) are:

  1. In Florida can I use a drone to look for fish?

  2. In Florida can I use a drone to present a bait to a fish?

Try those questions to MyFWC.com, they have a questions page. I don't think FWC looks here except to find violators. :)

Here's what I got from FWC:

The use of spotter planes (drones) is prohibited in Florida state waters. However,  there is no ruling against using a drone to deliver bait to fish.

    Thanks,

So it's fine as long as there's bait on the drone.
People use statistics the way a drunk uses a street light, for support rather than illumination.

Did they happen to give you reference to the source of that regulation?  Something in Florida Administrative Code maybe?

And it doesn't have a camera on it to spot fish?
