Pier troubles

I need some major help catching large fish! I come to redington beach a couple times a year and fish off of the redington long pier. I have no troubles catching smaller fish but when I hook something larger I get broken off. Can anyone suggest to me line weight, leader weight, bait, etc? I have a Penn Battle II combo and Penn Spinfisher V combo but sadly don’t know what size the reels are and I cannot check because they are in Florida right now. I would really enjoy hooking a snook or shark.

Please help me.

40# should be good. I don't know redington long pier but haven't heard many positives. Do they have a pier net? Your going to need one if you get a big snook.

BTW, you can get snook on the beach from april/may to sept. Once the season opens they disappear.
