My buddy, who has been kayaking up here since dinosaurs roamed the earth ,says his favorite yak rod is a berkley lightning stick and a Pflueger President XT. About 30 bucks for the rod and 70 bucks for the reel.

I must confess I ended up with a G Loomis E6X 7' medium and a Stradic 2500 with power pro superslick 8. I got to break it in today with a few trout and a few reds.
Good choice Spiney... a bit further out there than a Sahara on the CalicoJack, you will like this setup and if you take care of it it will take care of you. I have some Stradic (old FG's white with wood handle) that must be 10-15 years old and still work as good as they did when new.
Just make sure you rinse it well with fresh water after every use... rinse well does not mean power wash though !

Just saw that Cabela's has their Salt Striker® Inshore Spinning Rods on sale for $39.99 versus normal $79.99.
Personally, I've found the combos do not meet my needs. Usually, the rods are too stiff and heavy for my liking.
Just my opinion.

These are MH rods. I generally use 2 of them on the yak with 10# braid and 20# flouro.
I've bought 3 of the combos over the years with no issues. The combos go for about $130 so a $40 rod is a good value. These rods will NOT haul a big red/snook/grouper out from under a dock, but I did haul in an overslot red once from under mangroves.
Thanks Krash, I hope to have it and 3 others for a long long time. The feel is insane though.
