I remember an episode of hard knocks with the New York Jets where this RB came from USC and was a rookie. The Rbs coach joked to the other players about his attitude "he's just mad because he's taking a pay cut".
CFB is big business, at least for the school and the people that work for the program and the TV stations. Pay the players like employees, since they they are the labor that allows this big business to operate.
I think the reason they are there has become lost in all the money. They went there to get an education, but the money people, are trying to turn it INTO a job. I can see giving them ALL living expenses even across the table. Where this is leading or trying to lead is those already rich, want more, and thus they CAN pay certain players (only the very best with future pro shots) to become an EARLY client. Lock them up as a client in 8th grade with the promise of mass money, the 1 in 10 that make it reap the Rich much more, those that don't, broken leg, etc. will never see a dime or a scholarship. Just more divide... there is always a reason behind everything, not compassion as being passed off.
NCAA athletes are the modern day equivalent of slaves? Colleges would more than survive without college athletes but the sports programs bring national recognition to many universities.
What is vague or that you fail to understand about big business, labor, and capitalism? For you to assume you know more than me about what athletes need is more than a little pretentious.
There is no guarantee of an education or a job, or that an injury won't end their playing career. Let the free market work and let these kids find out how it works by getting a chance to share in the billions of dollars they generate every year.
You change none of that by paying them some measly salary for four years.
Again, you don't answer the questions and just post some links saying they should be paid.
How much do they get paid?
Do they all get the same or do the universities bid on the best players?
Do we pay all sports athletes or do you only care about the poor kids playing football and basketball?
Does the NCAA set the pay or just a salary cap per university?
Do we forget the education and just give them cash? You claim they aren't capable of learning.
If we pay each athlete $100,000 per year for the four years they play, no education, just treat it as a job, what do they do when the four years is up and they are not the 1% going to professional sports? They just get abandoned with no degree, no job, likely little money to live on, and no future.
How will this change their lives for the long term?
I would rather the University and the NCAA spend the money ensuring these athletes get a degree and become functional members of society. We should have rules that a certain percent must graduate and get a job with that degree for the university to offer scholarships.
Each conference can develop their own plan to pay athletes the conference receives from its media deals. Last year the Big Ten signed a deal that pays $2.6B over six years.

$434 million per year divided by fourteen teams. $31 million per team. Assume half to the players equals $15.5 mil to split. There is about 500 athletes on scholarship at each school. That would be $31,000 per year. Give it all to them and it is only $62,000 per year.
O.K., you answered one question. Now how about the rest including the big one.
How will this change their lives for the better for the long term? How is this better than giving them an education and a degree to go out and get a job?

May not work for football, but I can see where something like this would deprive college hoops of lots of big stars.
LaVar Ball plans to start league for high school graduates
LaVar Ball said Wednesday that he is launching a basketball league for nationally ranked players who have graduated from high school but don't want to go to college.
Ball said his Junior Basketball Association -- which he said is fully funded by his Big Baller Brand -- plans to pay the lowest-ranked player a salary of $3,000 a month and the best player $10,000 a month. Ball is looking for 80 players to fill 10 teams that will seek to play at NBA arenas in Los Angeles, Dallas, Brooklyn and Atlanta.

This. College sports is lucrative to a small percentage of universities, and then only because there is an audience. The emphasis should be on education and life preparation in a modern society. Otherwise they should not be academic institutions.

How are they going to be able to go to school with Football as a full time job?
I am still waiting on you to answer the questions. Avoidance is a fault of yours.
