11/7/2017 Offshore Red Grouper, Snapper and Cobia

tuesday, 11/7 headed offshore with a group of 3. We ran out to about 65 ft for our first drops. a mixture of lane snapper, porgies, and short red grouper came up. we moved out a bit deeper where we caught more of the same. another quick move out to 90 ft brought us some good luck. Keith hooked into a hard pulling fish that ripped off drag. it swam up towards the surface roughly 100 yds from the boat and I could tell it was a cobia. the fish stayed on the surface until it saw the boat and then made a blistering Run for the bottom. then began the back and fourth straight up and down battle. after a good 20-25 minute fight the fish hit the deck. the best part was the fish was landed on a small 3500 size Snapper outfit.
We continued to catch snapper throughout the day. Christy managed the 1st keeper grouper as well as the second. Dave picked up his two fish red grouper limit as well. With lots of grouper, snapper, porgys and a large cobia in the Box, everyone went home with lots of Good Eats. it was a pleasure fishing with the crew and I look forward to getting out again in the near future... Now to se if mother natures cooperates with some reasonable winds/seas!
