not that it'll matter much, but I'm interested in seeing what changes the interim head coach makes

Like I said it would go one of two ways, and it honestly went the way I expected. The kids are 19 to 22 years old and it creates a huge mess to dump a coach in the middle of the season. As witnessed today the kids might have cashed in the chips for the season so to speak. It will be a long road to recovery from here.

Missouri was playing at home in good weather.

They were overdue for a win, but this was unexpected.

Looks like team has used Mac as an excuse to check out this season. Really wish new coach could look at game films and revoke scholarships of those that have quit. Mac left the on field program in worse shape than Muschamp-- hard to believe that could happen.

I disagree with that 100 %. It was Muschamp that didn't recruit for offense almost the entire time he was at Florida. Which meant that Mac already had a huge deficit of players to recruit. Then with all the competition for top recruits Mac wasn't able to fill the voids quickly enough. Then add to that Will Grier chose to take roids and let his entire team and fan base down. Then on top of that the 10 suspended players chose to do stupid stuff and they also let the team and their fan base down. My only complaint is that he was loyal to a fault. He should have gotten rid of Nussmeier after first lack luster season. He has the creativity of a Kindergartener on Ritalin.

I would bet the opposite. He most likely feels responsible for the poor performance as of late, although he couldn't help the poor nitwits who decided to do stupid things and let the entire team , University and fan base down by getting suspended for the season. If I was the new coach coming in I would cut them all lose, bar none!

What a dumpster fire UF football has become.
Players quit, Coaches Quit, Fans Quit and even the Administration Quit. Yikes!!

I vaguely remember you and Res both giving up on your own dumpster fire at Free Shoes U!

Yup, I took 6 to the FSU Bama opener and attend home games and usually 1 or 2 road games per season. Had 50 people at our tailgate yesterday.

    Totally given up here. :grin

At least the administration at Uf are trying to fix the problem by getting a new coach and moving forward. We can't change what has happened, only make changes to make it better. FSU ain't changed nothing and continues to falter. Maybe Fisher will make a couple of changes int he off season, time will tell. I heard Saban and Fisher reached out to McElwain. Maybe McElwain will be your new offensive coordinator next year.

That's because only stupid programs fire coaches mid-season. When you do you have the mess UF had yesterday. EVERYBODY QUITS!!

It was a smart move for several reasons, but I wouldn't expect an FSU fan to understand. Everybody has not quit and won't likely unless the new coach lets them go.

No actually it was a dumb move for several Reasons.

Yesterday results being a big one. BUT the biggest one was UF fired a coach mid-season that had a winning record, back to back SECE Championships and the best start ever for an SEC Coach.

Who in their right might would want to go to that mess?

    Just wait and see.

You apparently don't know the whole story on why McElwain was fired.

I've been an FSU fan going back to the beat anybody bumper stickers. I'm not giving up on the team or the program. Some coaches need to go though.

I feel your pain, because I have been a Gator fan way back as well, when we couldn't beat our way out of a wet paper sack. I also agree that firing the coach like they did was stupid, and was bases on wins and money and nothing else. Sorry but the decline of all sports has arrived. I turned off all pro sports back in the 90's when professional baseball went on strike. I realized how much they were making just to play a silly game for entertainment. Now college sports has become the exact same thing... A business. It is time for me to do more fishing and less football watching. Not because I don't like it , I do. But because I fully disagree with the way thew sport is going. College football used to be a blast to watch, but when you see the money involved any more, it is just ludicrous.

    Ouch...

" Welcome to rock bottom, Florida. The Gators may lose out, but no performance will likely be as uninspired and pathetic as the one they put forward on Saturday in Columbia. Florida had no care defensively and absolutely no answers on offense. The bottom has fallen out for this program, and it is now more obvious than ever before that the Gators need a complete refresh in their next coaching hire. Florida failed to recruit defensively in order to replace the studs brought in by Will Muschamp, and it showed more than ever on Saturday."

MacElwain had mentally quit. He wanted out.
That started back in August during the credit card fiasco. Apparently he had already put Sexton-- his agent-- on notice that he was looking for an exit. It came out at that bizarre press conference.

Spurrier set the bar extremely high for those who follow him. I also see Will Muschamp learned from his fiasco at Florida. He now has a working offense at SC, and if he would have turned the OC loose, he would still be at Florida. The same thing will happen at Alabama when Saban leaves. I actually feel sorry for the next coach because the pressure starts a few weeks after he shows up on campus. Too much for any sane person. It is win and that is now.

The Florida Gators are having a rough week.

Just days after the team and Jim McElwain mutually parted ways after the Gators’ third consecutive loss last weekend, the team was brutally embarrassed (again) by losing 45-16 on the road to Missouri — a fellow unranked SEC team that didn’t have a conference win until playing Florida.
