Stern was lifted by the wave behind the boat....
the good question is: How could you have avoided that capsize? I suppose if he hit the throttle he may have avoided the loss but.....I don't know.

Regardless of how straight a run it is,,, that place when conditions are wrong is scarier than ****. I have surfed a boat into there on more than one occasiin and it puckers my *** up every time.

In such a situation, I always ran in under strong power keeping a little bit ahead of the following wave
and close attention to keeping the bow up (26 foot Rabolo CC with twin 245s).
Never had any problems. ???

His was a single engine 21 ft. Maybe he should of trimmed the motor to keep the bow higher. It's hard to say you only have a couple of seconds to think about it.

Yep! Could be?
Still, . . . was a sad event and glad I didn't witness in person.
Boynton Inlet, with that sand bar to the port side when going out is much more dangerous IMHO.
We knew to go out and approach the inlet by the south side. Not a big deal when the sea is
very calm, but, . . . I have seen some idiot in an 16 - 18 foot open outboard go out and almost
end up with with the bow in almost a vertical position with about 6 people aboard!
That was close -- very close.

It's a inboard. Only trim is to have all the fat boys run to the stern,,,,just one problem......... no fat boys aboard!
I like how the surfer let him use his potato chip board for a little bit.
The boat was taking on water..... You can see the weight change to the bow. He was just trying to get it in.
I also think he was trying to get her in as quickly as possible. Looking at the video numerous times, he was positioned correctly, IMO, with the wave at the bow. The distance between the waves were about as short as the boat. I don't think he saw the wave astern come up so quickly. With the bow weighted down (alot), he was doomed to stuff it.

Looked like a shamrock, which would mean inboard, I think more power to keep the following wave from lifting the stern would have avoided the problem. Scary stuff.
Boat was a 26. In that inlet you have to ride the back of the wave in front while on the throttle to keep from slipping back. If the wave behind catches up the stern will lift and you'll stuff the bow as he did.
FWIW the guy's name is Dave Sanderson. Certainly glad he is OK. A little research will show that he is a commercial who has been charged with possessing illegal fish and fined $50k in the past.
I should start a GoFundMe campaign. What kind of boat should I shoot for? Should I start a second GoFundMe for the truck to haul it or use the same one?

Rumor has it the bow was loaded and yes, a commercial guy.

At least he could salvage the fish box and leaning post/rigging station!
Either way, boss man ain't going to be happy.
An easy straight shot -- not like Boynton Inlet.
Why did the bow dig in???

That’s what I was wondering. Didn’t look like a typical pitch-pole.

The drone there at the time seems a little coincidental.
Sorry for your loss Capt.

From the comments, it seems the guy sends the drone up every time the inlet is rough to get good video.
He is there a lot
