backcountry lobstering- complete report

so went out just to check- the water the entire way was ZERO vis so navigation was slow and cautious. i ran as shallow as i could (6-9") cuz if there was anything to hit, i would see it as there several evils in deeper water just below the surface(boats, dock timbers, etc). the current was screaming as usual and the chattahoochee was much clearer- it was all moca w/ huge matts of nasty grass floating and on every beach. i overheated once and had to stop. i went to my shallowest spots and hopped in. visibility of zero-there was heavy scour and most of the kelp that was there was all broken off and gone. the lobster were VERY small and very spooky- they took off running if u were w/in 4' of em- i managed to successfully kill 3 keeper for a lobster dinner w/ much work- did not even consider anything over 4' deep due to zero vis. .meanwhile marcus tried for trout w/ no bite. the backcountry is not where to be , right now anless u r beaching+drinking -and take shoes -there is glass.

Thanks for the info. My boat was totaled. Will be awhile before back in business. Thursday evenings still on?

Thanks for the report Capt. I've been real curious what it's like back there. We have been down multiple times for repairs and still can't leave our dock due to the neighbors dock now being in the canal. Hopefully we will be able to hit the Atlantic side next month.

Bummer on this report. The two things that I have been wanting to do. Get a few Lobsters and hit the backcountry for some fishing. Atlantic side inshore is still pea soup so I guess I can't expect much different on the back side, same water going back and forth. So much silt inshore not sure when it is going to clean up.

Piner (and others) - my trip got moved to November 11. We prefer to lobster and spearfish in the Gulf side of Marathon. Have things improved in the two weeks since your post? I sure hope so. Thanks.

Last week bay side in Marathon was still a cloudy mess
Will be back out there Sunday or Monday and post a report for Marathon
