Put in 5:30 am at 10th street and headed North above Long Bar. At first light released a few big trout on a shallow grass bump using a swim bait on top. Drifted off the bump into deeper water and released a few blues and ladys. While still early moved to East side shallow near the mangroves. Nothing happening, water was dirty and lacked life. Got out of there and went back to drifting for trout. Not many trout, but ladys everywhere and a few blues. Fish got lock jaw around 11 am.
Now STUPID me. I got caught daydreaming. Reeling in a spoon I saw a huge fish chasing my spoon. At first I thought it was a shark. I was not in the mood to be messing with a large shark so I ripped the spoon out of the water. The fish continued to the boat was a huge red. He turned at the side of the boat giving me a good look at a fish that was easily over 40". To put salt on the wound, I had in hand my 8 ft., 4500 with 20# PP, 25# Seaguar and brand new spoon with my special hone (my heaviest rod on board). Oh well!
