Grouper and non stop Barracuda fun at Edison

We fished Edison reef this morning and trolled deep divers mostly.
it was great action first fish was a nice grouper then a small Barracuda next small Amberjack. and for the next hour
we caught and released several nice Barracuda and lost a few that we never saw. Great Time!

Will the deep diving plugs like stretch 30s reach the bottom out there or are you dragging the baits at various depths?

It is only about 40-45 ft. deep at Edison and I caught that grouper on a Rapala x-rap 30. I usually have four rods out with different colors and depths. using braid helps cut through the water which will get you deeper. On the Port rear rod I use a x-rap 30 about 150 ft back with 40lb. braid and a 10ft. 40lb. fluoro leader. On the Starboard rear rod I use either a small tuna feather jig or a shallow diver about 80 ft. back. The forward Port and Starboard rods are usually X-rap 30's at 75' and 100' back I only have braid as a backer on the other 3 rods. This set up has worked well for me. A couple of days ago I tried a Salmon rig I had with a diving plane and a spoon and caught everything but a grouper!

Thanks for the reply. In Maryland i liked trolling stretchs for striped bass. I ran them 150ft and 180ft back in 40ft at 3mph and they never hit bottom. I have been wanting to try trolling down here for a while, your 2 reports have got me really really anxious to get out.

I have been trolling about 4.5-5.5 mph depending on the current and wind. I keep my eyes glued to the depth finder and mark spots that hold fish and keep going over those spots. Be ready to mark them on your gps. Also there are lots of jellies out there right now so you will need to reel up and clean your lines periodically. Hope this weather settles down soon! Good luck!
