With the boat stored/covered, thought I'd get one last angling adventure in before the big blow.
Went to the Naples Pier Friday @ 7am. Water was clear and baitfish were from the beach to the end of the pier and beyond.
Throwing a black/white 3/8oz Spro bucktail, caught 5 mackerel, 4 silver trout and 3 sailcats.
There were 6 dolphins around and if the fish (except sailcats) were not reeled in very quickly, the dolphins took your fish!
One angler managed to hook 4 mackerel which the dolphins grabbed.
He free spooled his reel, let the dolphins chew the fish and then reeled in the mackerels head.
I found this to be quite interesting, letting the dopey mammals chew, rather than fight them and lose your lure.
OK, with that quick report, I hope/pray all my fellow 10K anglers and their friends/families make it through this storm safely. In a week, hopefully we'll able to get out and see where the sand has shifted and if any new cuts/passes were formed.
Be safe and hope to be on the water next weekend, even with the muddied water.
