Is it legal to keep Nassau grouper in the Bahamas as it is not in FL.?

You cannot bring them back to the U.S. by boat even when the season is open in the Bahamas

Thanks for your informative reply. Got a couple a few weeks ago and inadvertently broke the law when returning. Heading over again soon and now know how to handle it properly....must eat them up while there.

Although you cannot take them back to US by boat you can fly back with them to the US legally. Weird I know.

You may want to pass on taking the Nassaus - even if it is legal - they are in bad shape.

Large groupers are also known to carry ciguatera, be careful harvesting very large ones.

In addition to not being able to bring back Nassau Grouper, I verified with an FWC officer at the ramp the other day that when grouper/ any fish is closed here, you can not bring them back from Bahamas by boat.  So no Bahamas grouper or Hogfish until May 1.
