Need advice on generators and air conditioners

This is a bit off topic, but a friend is having a catamaran built in France and delivered to the Bahamas. He ordered it without a generator and air conditioners and would like those sourced from the Miami area. He's thinking a 4-6 kw diesel generator and three reverse air ac units so there will be no ducting. Any ideas where to buy them? Thanks!

He needs to accurately calculate what size genset he needs then round up. If you are referring to reverse cycle a/c's he will still need some form of ducting. The air conditioners also need to be sized correctly or else the boat will be miserable in South Florida. Go to Dometic's website to size the air conditioners and check defender.com on pricing, I sell Dometic units and cannot compete with defender's prices. Again, be realistic in sizing the generator and plan on add on in the future.

Thanks a lot. Sounds like great advice. I'll pass it along!

The Bahamas will crush him with taxes for bringing those items into the country. He is probably better off having them installed by the builder.

Have the builder do it. Add 20% capacity to the Gen set and AC units. Don't skimp. It will cost a lot more in the long run.

FYI Taxes in the Bahamas will kill him.

40% duty in Bahamas on air conditioners.....be sure to 'zinc' the water lines to the units they make a separate fitting for this.....white decks and insulation under decks if they can do it......1"-2" Corecell foam cored decks are the answer.

He will have lots of food for thought, lucky the boat is not far along in the build, time for changes.
