Do not give a **** about the rest of the world or how they do it.

Perhaps you should. They have already solved the problem we face.

The fact that you think the pharmaceutical industry or healthcare in general is or has been a free open market in decades suggests you are the one afflicted with ignorance.

I think nothing of the sort. I stated precisely the opposite: "Even though no such markets have ever existed on Earth since the before the Dark Ages".

The cumbersome buracracy that the federal government has inflicted upon both industries has all but eliminated any resemblance to an open free market.

There is no such thing as a free and open market. This isn't the year 432 BC in Germania. More like the Gilded Age all over again where the pseudo-free market led to calamities, consolidation, and eventually a decade long depression.

20-30 years ago, the govt was not as influential in the healthcare market.... Company A can lobby and gets measures passed that can hinder company B.. Happens in most industries too.
Not saying I have the answers; but almost every time the govt gets involved in anything-the result is not better.

The reason I ask is that 20-30 years ago was only 1987&1997.
There were all the health problems then as there are now. Obesity was just as bad (if not worse) smoking was way more prevalent then, you could smoke in a restaurant for example.
The bottom line is like with everything else the govt. interferes with they screw it up.
If company x charges $500 for a pill and Medicare pays it no questions asked,,,,,, guess what?

Yep. So perhaps Medicare should be allowed to negotiate drug prices with the manufacturers?
Oh, that's right, Congress actually passed a law saying that they couldn't....

Sometimes i wonder if the Govt is led to screw things up. How simple would it be to state, you can now charge the same as Canada, done deal. Then they break out the lobbyists in the swamp (the one that was going to get drained), have a bill drafted, take to congress and deregulate, thus, the corps. control the outcome, meaning the rich guys do. That is now how it all works, it was a little like that before, now, way out of control. Even the press briefings are coming intune with manipulation. (no Cameras today) and staged call in questions via satellite to fill time and break up the real questions. People are not paying attention because they are too busy.

52... I get all of what you wrote. I was referring to the Problems associated with getting it paid. Insurance, Docs, Pharma, etc. My grandfather retired in1975 from Chrysler and never paid a dime for anything, Father retired from the Post office in 2006 and at first it was OK, now he pays quite a bit.
We were told, pay in and when you get there it will be ready for you. THey knew we would live longer, have better care, etc... in 15 years it will be a disaster at this pace and many will be pushed aside.I will fall into that category as a small business owner. Even if I saved 100.00 a day from now til then and add that to the thousands I already have, a heart attack, bad kidney, etc. will wipe it out in a month. That is wrong!

This... and there you go. It wasn't some good congress man looking out for his people that did this.It was several, could be Dems and pubs. Doesn't matter, the drug company lobbyist are behind it and it was allowed to go thru. Somehow, they even convince a working class guy that it is good for him. They use the "This is America and you can charge whatever you want theory" Then this same guy complains when medicare needs more money. Not very smart when you think about it.Then they deflect, it is all the people on welfare your honor, that is the biggest problem, or all those people that don't work hard enough. There is no argument to be made by them, just a statement, and then deflection.

Got it! No fat people in the 90' s. My bad.
Chocolate milk?? I may buy a pint once a month , why do you ask??
It's a better energy drink than a red bull.

"No fat people in the 90s"? I never suggested such a silly thing. However, that graph clearly shows the fact that "Obesity was just as bad (if not worse)" back then as demonstrably false -- not that it ever stopped you before!!!

That said, chocolate milk is also fabulous as an after-workout drink...

    http://www.webmd.com/fitness-exercise/news/20100604/chocolate-milk-refuels-muscles-after-workout

...even if too many people are confused by its origin.

Now, if you will please excuse me, I've got to go eat some leftover, greenhouse-gas-emitting steak for dinner. I'll even say a chocolate milk toast for you over it.

    Take care...Mike

    Exactly!
Same for food, housing , college , medical care
Transportation insurance child care and more
The reason for rampant inflation in this country
The government pays for all public sector benifits
The private sector will raise costs to match it.

    And so it continues

Until the government ends entitlements which they won't do cause corporations need the government to Pay for encreased revenue sales profits every three months

As I have said dozens of times on this site. I do not participate (unless forced to do so) in and have all my life said almost all subsidies should be abolished. The exception being those that could somehow be in place during dire circumstances that could prevent food insecurity.

Fins has been consistent on this point.

And generally we agree -- subsidies should be abolished and the government should not be picking winners and losers -- although I think that subsidies are sometimes necessary for the greater good. One example would be renewable energy.

Why? To put it in economic terms, it's because the market doesn't effectively put the right price on environmental damage.

Hope you guys had a good weekend and an enjoyable 4th tomorrow....Mike
