Anchoring & Line Needed....

In my previous trips to the Keys we usually anchored in about 30 feet or so of water to fish the reefs. Through my educational process, I think to get a shot at some bigger YT and such, I should be going out to 60-90 feet of water. Looked at my boat rental and it comes with 200 feet of anchor rope. Assuming I'll need more rope than that to fish the deeper parts of the reef? Thanks...

A lot of that has to do with the anchor. but in the keys, on the reef, it really doesn't matter. The bottom is so nasty and knarly in those depths that having a retrieving ball would be my biggest concern. I use a 3:1 to a 5:1 ratio. If I'm in 20 ft I have at least 60ft out. If I'm in 50 ft have at least 150 out.

Also I have 180ft of rope and will anchor with a grapnel anchor in 90ft of water with no issues. Don't overthink it too much. 👍

YUp 100% agree...a couple of tie wraps will save you being permanently secured to the bottom.

Did that after i lost one in Tampa. Breakaway anchors from there on out.

Thanks...the anchor is one of the breakaways....
