Balmy Breeze

20June 2017...Wabasso to Grand Harbor...Nice balmy breeze out of the South, until go home time. Whitecaps breaking over the transom at the ramp, definitely not fun. Launch in the morning was not a whole lot better. Fishing in the Vero South area must be slow. Three guides uo working the area. One was at the Ladyfish hole, bad news, they are not there.
Started the day at the Pine Island point, bait thick, a few pops. Only thing that played was a Jack. Head for Hobart Landing, decide to make a quick stop at the cut. Has not been good the last few times. Working the Mangroves for Reds, land a 22 inch Trout. Takes the pressure off for Trout, CCA Entry fish. Hobart channel, Cats Snapper and short Trout, building numbers for CCA Conservation entry. Work the Mangroves looking for the magic tagged Red, Only fish of note was a small Tarpon on the Sister Flats, did good on the aerials, pulled the hook on a straight run. Nothing on the Spoil Islands. Grand Harbor, golf course still having a Shark problem. The South bridge is usually good for a few Snapper, not today. Last time they were missing, broke off a big Snook. Guy bank fishing hooked into something big, lost it. Whitecaps on the flat, rough ride across to The Estuary, saw a few fish, but nothing interesting. Tween area, Small Tarpon rolling, quick cast, hookup, jump, a 19 inch Snook nailed the tube. Time to hunt for Sheepshead entry. First one 11 inches, too short. Same thing for the next one. Third time is a charm, 17.5 inches on the Baby Vudu Shrimp, CCA entry. Spent the next hour trying to get a Sheepie on a fly. A lot up working, but with the water conditions, a good shot was nearly impossible. All fish released for another day.
